About the Filmmaker
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Obinna Robert Onyeri is a Los Angeles based filmmaker. His films have screened at Oscar and Bafta qualifying film festivals including Aspen Shortfest, Palm Springs International Shortfest, BFI x Flare, WME’s FutureFest, and TheWrap's Shortlist Film Festival. A British Council Five Films for Freedom recipient, he got his start in Hollywood on the postproduction team of The Woman King (2022).
He primarily focuses on culturally impactful, edge-of-your-seat atmospheric narratives that unravel in African and Diasporic settings and center on people who have been marginalized in those environments.
His work has earned him the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Directing Fellowship award, and the George Burns and Gracie Allen Scholarship. He holds an MFA degree in film production from The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Obinna is currently developing his first feature film.
