In the Chinatown slum, THAO discovers her grandmother, beaten to death and robbed of her collection of gold jewelry. Frustrated by the authorities' lack of interest to help their community. Thao’s objective of street justice is supported by their femme peers all stuck in a similar situation, poor in privilege, but rich in companionship. Thao crew work together, battling to end the slay of their elderly and petty crime. Head-to-head with the young thieving gang, they fight to success, finding a sense of peace and new sense of purpose in their communities.

About the Filmmaker
Sally Tran (she/her/they) is a NYC-based writer and director with roots in Vietnam and New Zealand. Known for her distinct storytelling, Sally focuses on narratives that illuminate diverse cultural perspectives and social issues, especially those affecting marginalized communities. She has been recognized through prestigious programs, including the Massey University Writers Residency and Berlinale Talents. Her work is supported by notable institutions like the New Zealand Film Commission, Script to Screen New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, and Asia New Zealand.
Her 2024 short film Don't Fck with Ba*, produced in NYC, received backing from NYCWF, NYFA, MOME, the Panavision New Filmmakers Grant, and the Vimeo BIPOC Fund, premiering internationally at TIFF. Clementine (2024), her short narrative exploring transgender identity, had its world premiere at NewFest.
Sally is currently in production on Still a Go Between, a short documentary supported by the BRIC Film Labs Residency and Tribeca Film Institute. She has also received a grant for Love Cycle, her next narrative short, set to shoot in Saigon in 2025.
With a commitment to resonant storytelling, Sally’s work amplifies underrepresented voices and fosters empathy across cultures.
