About the Filmmaker
Andrew J Rodriguez is an award-winning Afro-Dominican filmmaker who strives to demystify the experiences of underserved communities through nuanced, character-driven stories reimagined in a world of magical realism. His work has been showcased at Lincoln Center, Tribeca Film Festival, NewFest, TIDE, and Outfest. Most recently, Andrew wrote for the Love in Gravity series on Spotify which was later adapted as a stage play featured on Teen Vogue, and Harper Bazaar. He is a SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory graduate, a 2020 Creative Culture Fellow, and a 2019 Tribeca Sloan Discovery Fellow. Currently, Andrew is developing his first feature, Negro, a narrative story exploring the complex relationship between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
